GLP Program Requirements

The Declaration of Completion (DOC) is a certificate proving completion of a GLP Program; it is good for two Grade 11 High School credits and allows a six month time reduction from your Class 7N (novice) stage.

Training must be completed, and the DOC earned, in the Learner phase of licensing in order to qualify for the 6 month time reduction incentive.

GLP students must meet the following requirements to earn a DOC:

  • The student must have attended all of the Theory Classes, completed the pre-trip homework assignment, and passed the written test.
  • Training must be integrated, meaning the student must have gone for at least one driving lesson before completion of theory classes or vice versa.
  • The student must have completed at least 12 hours of in-vehicle instruction with a GLP certified driving instructor.
  • The student must have achieved competence in all areas of training, which is assessed by their driving instructor.
  • The entirety of the training must be competed and competence met within a 365-day time frame.

If any one of these requirements has not been met within the 365-day time frame the student will not be eligible to receive a DOC.

The in-car booklet, in which notes and grades are logged by the instructor, must be resubmitted to the driving school before the DOC can be released.

Our Instructors will always monitor each student's development throughout their practical training; both students and their parents will be advised immediately of any particular concerns regarding individual progress. Important notes from the instructor are written in the in-car booklet for parents to review.

Beginning Competencies will be reviewed on Lesson 3, while Exit Competencies will be reviewed on Lesson 6 (this assessment plan is based on the 8 lesson GLP Plan A).

On lesson 6, the Instructor will consider all of the above ICBC stipulations to determine whether the student may be expected to qualify for their DOC by the conclusion of their training. This is to allow for any necessary adjustments to the driving schedule and/or road test arrangements. Including postponement of lessons to allow more practice time if necessary, or additional lesson time to be purchased and built into the training program should it be required.
