Class 4 Driver Training

Students must meet us at our North Vancouver or Burnaby office locations for Class 4 lessons. The road test is typically set up by the driving school to ensure our vehicle and an instructor will be available. We can test at the North Vancouver or Burnaby license offices.

To enroll, the student will need to have obtained their Class 4 Learner's licence by studying the ICBC Driving Commercial Vehicles book and passing a knowledge test at their local driver services centre. Payment for the Class 4 Course must be made, or a credit card number given, at the time of booking.

Class 4 training is for a professional driver's license, therefore this training is HST exempt and tax deductible under Professional Training.

Class 4 Unrestricted

Our Class 4 Unrestricted course includes 4 hours of one-on-one instruction with a driving instructor and a 1 hour road test with an ICBC driver examiner. Lessons are arranged in advance, and the course is typically delivered over a two week period. A Class 4 Learner's license must be obtained before booking.

A class 4 unrestricted driver's license will allow you to operate the following vehicles:

  • Buses with a maximum seating capacity of 25 persons (including the driver including school buses, special activity buses and special vehicles used to transport people with disabilities

  • Taxis and limousines

  •  Ambulances

  • Any motor vehicle or combination of vehicles in Class 5

Class 4 Unrestricted Driver Training Course:                     $445

1.5 Hours              30 minutes video, 30 minutes pre-trip, 30 minutes driving

1.5 Hours              45 minutes pre-trip, 45 minutes driving

2 Hours             1 hour review and warm up, 1 hour road test

  • If additional training is needed to prepare for the test your instructor will recommend it.

Individual Class 4 Unrestricted Lessons:

1 x 60 minute driving lesson                                     $90

1 x 90 minute driving lesson                                     $135

  •   ICBC’s road test, medical, and licensing fees are not included.

 Class 4 Restricted

Our Class 4 Restricted course is similar to the unrestricted course except that is taught in a smaller vehicle and includes 2.5 hours of training with a driving instructor and a 1 hour road test with an ICBC driver examiner. A Class 4 Learner’s license must be obtained before booking.

A class 4 restricted driver's license will allow you operate the following vehicles:

  • Taxis and limousines (up to 10 persons including driver)

  • Ambulances

  • Special vehicles with a seating capacity of not more than 10 persons (including the driver) used to transport people with disabilities

  • Any motor vehicle or combination of vehicles in Class 5

Class 4 Restricted Driver Training Course:                         $278

1.5 Hours              45 minutes pre-trip, 45 minutes driving

2 Hours                 1 hour review and warm up, 1 hour road test

Individual Class 4 Restricted Lessons:

1 x 60 minute driving lesson                                     $80

1 x 90 minute driving lesson                                     $120

Lesson Plan for Class 4

The first lesson would be of 90 minute's duration; three areas of instruction will take place. The initial 30 minutes of the lesson will be a Classroom Video presentation on Defensive Driving, with particular stress on observation skills and traffic space management. In the next 30 minutes of the lesson, the Instructor will demonstrate the procedure for a proper pre-trip Inspection of the vehicle. Printed information on the pre-trip, which the student can use to practice at home on their own vehicle, is also provided. In the final 30 minutes of the lesson, the student driver is put behind the wheel; as they are becoming accustomed to the relatively large vehicle, the Instructor will give any direction necessary while evaluating their skills and acquired habits.  

The next lesson will also be of 90 minute's duration. Approximately the first half of the lesson will focus on the pre-trip Inspection, aiding the student in memorizing the features and sequence of checking the roadworthiness of the Class 4 vehicle. The second half of the lesson will concentrate on the driving aspect, both correcting acquired bad habits and teaching skills particular to the larger vehicle, such as lane use, railway-crossing procedures, reversing procedures and passenger safety.  

The final lesson will be of 120 minute's duration. The initial hour will review all aspects of inspecting and driving the Class 4 vehicle, especially in consideration of the ICBC road test requirements. As soon as this final lesson is completed, the driver will then commence their Class 4 road test with the ICBC driver examiner in the same vehicle. This may be arranged through North Vancouver or Burnaby Driver Services Centre, or possibly through our Burnaby ESP program (in which case the road test would take place from our Burnaby Truck Training Center).
