North Shore Driving School is the longest running and most experienced Driving Instructor Training Centre in BC. Our instructor graduates are among some of the most successful instructors and operators in British Columbia. Learning to teach opens many doors and often a whole new life for many of the students we instruct in this profession.

We have been committed to excellence in Class 5/7 and Class 1 instructor training courses for over 30 years and for the past 10 years the Motor Vehicle Branch has licensed us to train and test instructor trainees ourselves.

Class 1 Intructor Trainees are required to attend our 16 hour Air Brake and/or our 8 hour Truck Theory before course commencement.

The Time Frame

The Class 5/7 car instructor training course runs for two weeks full time. The Class 5/7Instructor course with Class 1 upgrade runs for three weeks full time. Instructor training courses are available year-round with a minimum of three and maximum of twelve trainees per class. Both locations are close to bed & breakfasts, hotels, and public transportation. For those having trouble finding accommodations we would be happy to help make these arrangements.

The Equipment

For Class 1 training sessions we use new conventional highway tractors with integral sleepers where trainees are able to alternate between driving and observing from the sleeper. Most of our trucks are equipped with the latest electronic engines and a variety of transmissions.

For Class 5/7 training, we use Corollas with two steering wheels, double pedals, and complete controls for the instructor.

Our instructors will also prepare you to instruct from the right side of the vehicle.

Books and reference materials are included and provided with the course.

All courses are conducted in English.

Our classrooms are equipped with air conditioning and parking is free.

Class 5/7 and Class 1 Driving Instructor Training

• Course fees are GST Exempt and Tax Deductible (retain your receipt). All books and materials included in the course fee.

• If you wish to cancel your course, we require minimum 2 weeks notice (10 business days) by phone, during office hours. Tel (604) 988-1138.

• A $500.00 deposit will hold your place in class. The $500.00 deposit fee is non- refundable for late cancellations.

• The balance of the fees are due in full on the first day of class. We accept Visa, Master Card, Debit, Cash or Cheque.

• Course structure, length and cost are subject to change.

• If you choose to discontinue once the course has started, the course fee is non-refundable.
