LESSONS:

GLP GUIDELINES:
In 1998 ICBC introduced Graduated Licensing to B.C.; apart from other restrictions applying to the newly created "L" & "N" Class 7 & 8 Licences, the most fundamental changes applied to new License Holders is to extend their minimum period spent in the "L" stage to one year, and their minimum period in the "N" stage to two years.
The only exception to this rule is for student drivers who successfully complete an ICBC Approved G.L.P. [Graduated Licensing Program] Training Course, which is designed to facilitate concentrated, integrated training and practice; these students may then be issued a Declaration of Completion [D.o.C.] by the Driver Training School [D.T.S.], which will confer two Grade 11 Credits, as well as reducing the minimum time to be spent in the "N" stage to 18 months by permitting the CLASS 5 Roadtest to be taken 6 months sooner. It is incumbent on the D.T.S. to ensure that certain parameters are met, before they may issue the student driver a D.o.C., and these key requirements are listed below:
The Student must have attended all of the Theory Classes,
completed all assignments, and passed the Written Test administered by the D.T.S. in the class
The student must have completed at least 12 hours of in-vehicle with a GLP Approved Driving instructor.
The entirety of the integrated training [Classroom & Practical] should be completed within a maximum 365-day time frame
Our Instructors will always monitor each student's development throughout their Practical Training, and both students and their parents will be advised immediately of any particular concerns regarding individual progress. Beginning Competencies and practice hours will be reviewed on Lesson 3, while Exit Competencies and practice hours will be reviewed on Lesson 6 [of 8 lessons in the car]. At this time, the Instructor will consider all of the above ICBC stipulations to determine whether the student may be expected to qualify for their D.o.C. by the conclusion of their training. This is to allow for any necessary adjustments to the driving schedule and/or Roadtest, including postponement of lessons to allow more practice time if necessary, or additional lesson time to be purchased and built into the training program should it be required.
